Mushrooms and the Freedom to Worship

Understand your rights when it comes to your spiritual path and the role that mushrooms have in your journey. PRISMA believes psilocybin mushrooms are an active sacrament, helping us commune directly with the Universe. These Sincerely-held religious beliefs are legally protected.

The Right to Worship with Mushrooms.

Welcome to a transformative journey where spiritual exploration meets legal protection. At PRISMA, we invite you to discover how the sacred use of psilocybin mushrooms can illuminate your inner path and connect you with the Divine.

Our practices are rooted in a commitment to sincere spiritual growth and as such, are protected under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), ensuring that your journey remains both safe and respected by law. We invite all to discover this path.

The law protects sincerely-held religious beliefs.

At PRISMA, our approach is twofold: we honor the profound spiritual insights that psilocybin mushrooms can offer, and we adhere strictly to legal standards that protect your right to pursue sincere religious practices. Drawing from established legal precedents, we affirm that when a sacrament is central to one’s spiritual life, it is deserving of robust legal protection.

Use of the mushroom sacrament must be safe AND central to your sincerely-held religious beliefs*

*There is no bright-line test for “centrality.” A court would look at evidence to determine (a) whether you use mushrooms to sincerely worship or (b) whether you use religion to get around drug laws.

Legal Foundations and RFRA Support

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act stands as a powerful safeguard for individuals practicing their sincerely held religious beliefs. RFRA mandates that any government action must not substantially burden the free exercise of religion unless it is the least restrictive means to serve a compelling state interest.

  • UDV and Santo Daime Cases: Landmark court decisions have affirmed that when a sacrament is both safe and central to one’s religious practice, it is entitled to protection.

  • These cases clearly demonstrated that religious practices involving sacraments—such as psilocybin mushrooms—are not only valid but also shielded by law when integrated into sincere spiritual life.

  •
  • Centrality of the Sacrament: For our worship to be legally protected, the mushroom sacrament must be indispensable to your religious practice. This “centrality” is demonstrated by both institutional commitment and individual devotion. In other words, your worship must authentically depend on the sacrament as a gateway to divine communion.

Practicing Responsibly Within Legal Boundaries

While the transformative power of psilocybin mushrooms is central to our spiritual practices, it is essential to recognize that these substances remain scrutinized.

PRISMA is committed to the responsible use of the sacrament, ensuring that our practices adhere to the highest safety standards and legal requirements:

  • • Safety First: Every ceremony is meticulously designed to prioritize safety and wellbeing.
  •
  • • Strict Boundaries: Our sacrament is exclusively for ceremonial use within our spiritual community and must not be diverted or misused.
  •
  • • Personal and Collective Accountability: Whether on the Solo or Communal Path, maintaining a personal or collective covenant is crucial. This ongoing commitment not only deepens your spiritual journey but also reinforces the legal protections afforded by RFRA.
  •
  • • Legal Awareness: While RFRA offers robust protection for sincerely held religious practices, all practitioners must remain informed about the legal landscape and potential risks associated with Schedule I substances.

At PRISMA, we believe in the power of authentic, legally supported worship.  Whether you choose a path of personal reflection or join in communal celebration, your spiritual journey is uniquely yours and powerfully celebrated.
